This is my used 3M PF400XL 16-18inch Privacy / Anti-Glare /
Anti-Radiation Filter. It spent years on a Viewsonic 7 17 inch
CRT monitor until recently when the monitor started to scroll after
temporarily turning it off to install vinyl windows. I had used
it 24/7 for over a decade. They don't make them like that any more.
It was disposed of at the Household Hazardous Waste Center in Irvine.
The screen filter is advertised to fit 16 in - 18 in CRTs and 17
in - 18 in LCDs. The actual viewing area is 14 inches wide by
11.5 inches tall. The frame is 11/16 inch wide all the way around.
At the farthest extension of the clips, there is 2.75 inches from the
underside of the clips' foam to the top edge of the filter's frame.
At the minimum, the clips touch the frame.
The screen filter is still in very good shape. There are no visible
scratches on the glass. The anti-glare coating is still intact.
I recommend the use of anti-glare lens cleaner which you can get at
eyewear or photography stores for those stubborn oily fingerprints.
You'll touch it once and never do that again, but other people will
continually touch the screen while looking over your shoulder because
they won't be able to see from beside you.
There is a grounding cable which I clipped to the back of my computer
case. It probably disapates the static that builds up from the CRT
as there's not much dust that sticks to the screen compared with my
TV or laptop's LCD screen.
The clips on the sides are adjustable up and down, but not removeable.
At least, I can't figure out how to remove them for shipping. The
manual says I had to have put it together when I got it, but it doesn't
say how to remove them for shipping.
The clips are fatigued from age and will lose their grip and slide.
I use transparent/masking tape to keep them in place.
The anti-slip foam on the underside of the clips slip out of place
depending on the angle of your monitor's top due to the age of the
adhesive. They slip more in hot weather and if you have a non-flat
monitor top. You could probably find something to replace them at
your local hardware store. I chose to keep everything original for
this auction.
The entire frame is slightly yellow with age and exposure to flourescent
lights.
